A 50-year-old member asked:

Can advair cause headaches?

Maybe yes: Many medications list headaches as a possible side effect. However, headaches are common in people, whether or not they are taking medication. If one gets headaches right after each dose of advair, advair may well be the cause. Advair has 2 ingredients, so one can try them individually to see if either cause a headache. One can also ask to try symbicort, (budesonide and formoterol) which is a little different from advair.

Maybe: Check in w/your family doc & ask for pft (pulmonary function test) to determine how well you're breathing. You may have subconsciously decreased your activity level to avoid becoming short of breath w/o your meds. If you wake up frequently at night to reach for your rescue inhaler, you definitely need your prevention inhaler (advair).

No: The portion of the drug that helps push/propel the dry powder into the lungs does not last much beyond 1 year. I always encourage my patients to renew their drug every 6 months.
