What is the treatment for rheumatic heart disease?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Surgical rarely: Rheumatic heart disease is caused by rheumatic fever. In the acute setting, antibiotics to treat the strep infection, Aspirin to decrease inflammation, and occasionally steroids are used. In most cases, the valvular scar caused by rheumatic fever are minor, and does not require intervention. However if the regurgitant (leaky) or stenotic (narrow) condition is severe, surgery may be indicated.
