Post-inflammatory (after a rash or injury) types are common, but there are also endocrine (hormonal), syndromic (genetic), and metabolic or disease associated types. Can be: Hyperpigmentation can be the result of excess acth production. The gene that codes of acth also codes for the trigger for pigment formation. Acth is high when the pituitary makes too much (in cushing's disease) or if the adrenal glands fail (in addison's disease).
