A few causes: Peripheral edema, local inflammation caused by injury, foreign body, infection, among other things. See a podiatrist for a proper diagnosis and evaluation. Good luck!

Few things: A rupture of the plantar fascia. A fracture in the foot, an access, a foreign body, a sprain, an infection, an allergic reaction, gout, etc, etc.
