Several possibilits: The most common cause would be compression during the later stages of pregnancy. There is little compression around 12 wks but as the pregnancy progresses, less room is available and the feet and hands are occasionally placed in odd positions that would include overlap.Another would relate to chromosome defects or syndrome features.
