A member asked:

What are the differences between ranitadine h2 blocker tabs and lansoprozale tabs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mechanism of action: Ranitidine and other H2 blockers block a Histamine mediated stimulus of acid production. Proton pump inhibitors like Lansoprazole block acid formation through a different mechanism. Generally proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are considered more effective and sometimes too effective at reducing the acid environment in the stomach leading to impaired calcium absorption.
