Very different: Calcitonin is a hormone made by the thyroid. Human calcitonin does not do much. If your thyroid is removed, we give you back levothyroxine but we do not need to give you back calcitonin. Calcitonin is secreted by a specific kind of thyroid cancer, medulary cancer. Calcitriol is vitamin D, 1, 25, the potent one. Vitamin D helps you absorb calcium in your diet.
