Depends: CMV is a "sleeper". Some term infants are born with CMV and manifest no symptoms. However some may have hearing difficulties. If an infant is born with CMV and has a full-blown syndrome that affects the liver, lungs,brain, eyes-then it is a serious condition that is hard to treat. Treatment with drugs is not very successful. CMV causes neurologic injury may be severe result in microcephaly
