Varies: The intensity of fetal damage varies somewhat with the timing of the mother/baby infection. Earlier infections can cause stillbirth, brain damage, major organ swelling & affect vision. Late in pregnancy the infection may go unnoticed initially but lead to progressive hearing loss within months or years.
