81=heart; 162=stroke: The original studies were European population studies (in Scandinavia, I believe). The rate of heart attacks were ~the same whether taking 75 mg or 325 mg (full dose) but higher if not taking at all. {In Europe, aspirin comes in 75 mg tablets}. As there's no point in taking more medicine than needed, use the lowest US dose (81 mg). For stroke prevention, 162 mg is the lowest dose that's effective.
