OrthodonticAssistant: can help with placing braces, changing wires, and anything else that needs to be done for braces treatment. She/he always works under the supervision of an orthodontist.

Orthodontist: Was there a problem or did you have a complication from treatment? It is normal for orthodontist to supervise their technicians depending on what the procedure is. If you have a concern, discuss it with your orthodontist.

Auxillary: Dental auxillary personel, if trained properly, are permitted to perform specific duties under the supervision of a dentist. So yes, it is normal.
