A member asked:

Are there any cardiologists that can tell me why the p wave on an ecg is pointed amplitude 2.5 mm and the u wave is tall? what are the possible causes of this if previous ecgs were normal

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Standardization: a sudden increase in P amplitude and U amplitude when previous EKG was normal likely is due to change in the settings of the EKG machine with increased gain voltage amplitude which is indicated on the bottom left of the page should state 10 mm per millivolt. If this is not the case..... increased P amplitude indicates large atrium and increased U wave may indicate low potassium, or high Calcium
