Depends: It really all depends on what the root cause of your colitis is. After multiple episodes of diverticulitis, you should have a discussion with your surgeon about elective surgery. For Inflammatory bowel disease/Ulcerative colitis, it is likely that you will need surgery depending on biopsy since this is a precancerous condition.
