Pediatric migraines: The use of amitriptyline for migraines is common. In pediatrics we tend to prescribe doses based on weight and 10mg is the lowest available dose. Any time you have concerns about a prescribed treatment it is most effective if you discuss your concerns with the prescribing physician - there needs to be a relationship of trust and open communication.

Headache: I would recommend that you see a pediatric neurologist before initiating treatment . Some of the triptans that are used for headaches in adults are being used for children. Amitriptyline is a choice as well, but somewhat less effective.
