Here is ...: In the United States, antibiotics for chlamydia requires prescription to purchase and for a 17-yr man, it may be not advisable in some states. Nonetheless, check your local legal situation; but, I still recommend having a professional help you to reach Dx before getting and taking antibiotics for this nature. Besides, counseling for future is as equally important as taking drugs.

Not sure about: Australia. Here in the United States of America, you have to have a prescription and tested positive for chlamydia. It is not available over the counter!!!

Unlikely/bad idea: Self treatment for any suspected problem is never advised. You may have been exposed, or think you know what is going on, but the chlamydia treatment won't cure the syphilis or many of the other similar agents you could have been exposed to at the same time.

Chlamydia=ANTIBIOTIC: The standard treatment for chlamydia is zithromax 1000mg once or Doxycycline 100mg 2x/day for 1 week. The goals of treatment are to prevent complicated infections related to chlamydia (eg, pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, ectopic pregnancy), decrease the risk of transmission to others, and attain resolution of symptoms.

Depends on type: Clamydia can cause a variety of infections depending on the bacterial type. Possibilities include stds, pneumonia, eye infection, cervical infection and pelvic inflammatory disease among others. Several: Chlamydia in some people is asymptomatic. It can cause UTI symptoms, pelvic pain, and vaginal discharge. If you are sexually active and not using condoms, please consider using them. The only way to know for sure though is get tested at your doctors office. Most medcheck, family docs, ob/gyns, and health care clinics and planned parenthood can confirm your diagnosis. Don't delay.
