Appropriate care.: Epilepsy, cerebral palsy, mental retardation are risks. However, some do remarkably well even with severe findings on scans. Brain surgery may be considered in severe cases - but should be avoided. Hemispherectomy is an extreme option.

Genetic cause is : Usually sporadic, possibly due to mosaicism-some, but not all cells have gene abnormalities. EEG's to look for seizures (~ 70%). Neuromaging to monitor growth of hemangiomas, blood vessel abnormalities of brain & brain coverings. Eye exams for glaucoma (30-48%) & hemianopsia (decreased vision in one eye).
