A member asked:

Is the medicine metformin and glimperide prescibed on a patients weight wise or they have a maximun dose in a day. if yes what are their max dose.thx?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not weight based: Hi. No, neither medicine is dosed on the basis of body weight. The maximum effective dose of metformin is 1000 mg twice daily; although it is approved up to 2550 mg in a 24 hour period, no one I know prescribes that dose. Glimepiride is approved up to 8 mg per day. Metformin still plays a role in type 2, but in my opinion, there are drug classes preferable to the class glimepiride is in. Good luck
