A member asked:

How much protein is supposed to be in your kidneys and is 30 protein bad?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

3+ = proteinuria: Kidneys are a filter. When the filters enlarge from inflammation, protein escapes into the urine. This commonly occurs in the pregnant population and athletes. Otherwise, a virus like measles or a strep infection can cause it. Minimal Change Disease is common among children but sometimes affects adults. You need additional labs - amount of protein in urine over 24 hrs and creatinine clearance.
