I've heard that protein powder is bad for your kidneys. is that true? if so, what alternative should one use as a supplement?

Not intrinsically-: -bad. We all need 50gms of protein daily with heavy weight training, a boost may be needed for that day. Taken in excess or when not needed, can be toxic 2 the kidneys. Also you can get your protein from diet, not supplements.
