FH of diabetes: There does seem to be a predisposition, but I would emphasize predisposition. if you maintain a health weight, exercise,do not over indulge in carbohydrates, sugars you decrease your risk of diabetes. Cinammon is now being tested as well, 1 teaspoon dissolved in tea or water or incooking ( do not take dry it is dangerous) with meals also may help stabilize sugar. Follow up with your doctor.

Depends.: It depends upon your lifestyle. If you eat a proper diet full of vegetables and whole foods low in sugar/carbohydrates and exercise on a regular basis your chances are much less. Read the book "The Blood Sugar Solution" by Dr Mark Hyman for good ideas on how you can avoid diabetes. Take care.

Risk factors: Family history contributes to risk for diabetes, but lifestyle is also important. You can lower your risk for developing diabetes by maintaining normal weight, getting sufficient sleep, exercising regularly, and eating a diet rich in fresh fruits vegetables and whole grains.
