You get better: acute bronchitis is viral in cause the majority of the time which means it is self limiting or you get better with time. this is not a bacterial infection that needs antibiotics. It is frustrating to "do nothing" but wait , however the bodys natural healing properties are the best medicine

Depends: Most cases are viral and self limited. Some are caused by bacteria and may progress to full blown pneumonia if untreated.

Better or worse: Sometimes bronchitis can resolve itself, particularly if it's caused by a virus. On the other hand, it can worsen leading to shortness of breath and possibly pneumonia.
