Many approaches: Depression is always serious but can be of particular concern in teens, who tend to be more impulsive & thus prone to suicide. Providing love & emotional support is a good start. Counseling often helps. Fish oil, nutraceuticals, herbs & homeopathy can help, but they may also need pharmaceuticals prescribed by a family physician or psychiatrist. Depressed teens will often need professional help.

Talk to them: Discuss what you've observed & take them to see a psychiatrist ask how bad they've been feeling if they ever felt like giving up suicide etc to determine if hospitalization needed.
