Several causes: A red patch of the soft palate may be due to Candida, particularly if a person wears dentures. More importantly, a red patch may represent Erythroplakia (also called Erythroplasia). Erythroplakia is strongly associated with excess alcohol consumption and smoking or chewing tobacco **and is considered a pre-malignant condition. Consult an oral surgeon for possible biopsy. Red patch: Not enough information to make a differential diagnosis. Discoloration should have faded in 2 weeks. Would advise seeing an Oral Surgeon for evaluation.
