Wound abscess: What you are expressing is likely a mixture of fat cell necrosis, some pus, and serous exudate; it must be extruded and cleaned out; lumpy nature likely indicates small collections within this wound; these should be cleaned out as well; it is time for the surgeon to examine this again; it can be probed, irrigated, and wicked again; a repeat culture is indicated, also. Monitor wound: It sounds like this abscess that started 2-1/2 wks prior was drained, a wick placed and clinda started 3 days ago. If so, the lumpiness and fluid (mix of yellow serum and red blood cells- hence orange) is expected since your body continues to resolve the infection. Continue the antibiotics- it should resolve soon. if you get a fever, or the wound looks more angry and painful, call your doctor.
