I have consistent body temperature of 97 degrees taken orally and by ear. i assume it's normal so what makes it lower than the standard 98.6?

Normal: If you are feeling fine, don't worry, it means it's normal. Different people have different basal body temperature.

No problem: Normal temperature is a range dependent on many factors, it is not a single number. 98.6 is at best an average, though even that is likely to be inaccurate.
