Fiber and water: Increasing fiber intake combined with adequate free water is the basis of constipation prevention, furthered by avoiding binding foods including dairy, bananas, starches, etc. Lactulose is available by Rx for children.

Natural fixes: In general, the juices from fruits with a "P" loosen stools.Prune juice (full strength) is the most helpful,and for a 1 yo a couple ounces 1-2X/d may help. Limiting applesauce, bananas, and rice cereal and assuring proper hydration also helps.Milk is often blamed for constipation but I find might be in some but not fot most kids.
