A member asked:

Used a mild hydrocortisone suppository on day of saliva cortisol test. levels came back very high, dr is convinced is cushing's. suppository to blame?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not clear: Hi. I'm not sure why you're taking rectal hydrocortisone (HC). Hi dose exogenous glucocorticoids can cause Cushing's. However, rectal absorption of HC is poor compared to oral. If rectal dose was low, it seems unlikely it caused a high salivary cortisol. How long after suppository was saliva test collected? You need to stay off HC, do 24-hr urine cortisol, cortisol and ACTH with sex suppression.
