What are the tests for supraventricular tachycardia?

Rhythm recordings: The heart rhythm is recorded - with ekg followed by holter monitoring for 24 to 48 hours; or with event monitors for up to 30 days; or with an implanted loop recorder for up to 6 months. Also blood tests are done for thyroid, potassium and magnesium level. An echo is also appropriate.

SVT testing: The definitive test for SVT is an invasive cardiac electrophysiologic study, where catheters are fed through veins, to directly record the electrical activity within the heart. Electrocardiograms (ECG's), Holter, and Event monitors, and implantable loop recorders are also helpful. On occasion a treadmill stress test can help. Most importantly, a thorough history and physical is where to start.
