Depends on therapy: Depends on treatment. Radioactive ablation with I131 requires imaging for determination of volume of gland and homogenicity. Dose is calculated from thyroid uptake and size of gland. Medical therapy and surgery do not require nuclear scan. Can perform ultrasound.
