Can you have ablation therapy done in a child for grave's disease?

This is an option: Iodine 131 ablation is one of the techniques used to rx graves. The specialty centers involved usually try medical treatments first but if control is not acheived after 3 months, another mode may be indicated.I've read of use down to 7yo but the choice should be made in after discussing pro's&cons with your endo md.Ablation will mean daily thyroid medication for life & monitoring for complications.

Depends on age: Although most pediatric endocrinologist would consider rai ablation to be safe in children above the age of 7 (with no contraindications) if dosed appropriately, i tend to reserve such approach to the moderate and sever cases where medication induced remission will be low (only 30-40% remission rate at best achieved with anti thyroid medication hence the tendency to go for rai route in most cases).
