Usually medication: Graves diease is the most common cause of hyperthyriodism, it is an autoimmune disease.The majority of patients can be treated with medications to control the amount of thyriod hormone is made or secreted and others that can control the hypermetabolic effects of the hormone on the body and heart. Some patients may require thyriod gland destruction using radioactive iodine and /or surgery.
