I have lupus and i'm on prednisone. i was on a high dosage starting at 60mg and now i'm tapering down to 5mg will certain foods cause a flare up?

Only if allergic: Foods should not cause flare up of lupus unless you,'re allergic. If you,'re sensitive you may find some foods make you feel more arthritis but they,'re not causing a flare.

Congratulations: on tapering to such a low dose! I haven`t ever encountered or heard of a patient that has lupus flares activated by food. When on prednisone, sometimes a diet low in sodium will alleviate any excess swelling.

For a year now my doctor has been trying to lower prednisone but every time i get lower than 10 mg i get a lupus flare, what do you recommend ?
How dose such a small maintenance dose of prednisone 5 mg daily w/ plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) prevent my lupus flares more than plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) alone? It works great.
