A member asked:

Cavity/receded gum: Sensitivity is the result of exposure of a nerve ending to a stimulus such as touch or hot/cold food or drink. Known tooth problems that can cause sensitivity are decay that has penetrated fairly deep or receded gums exposing the surfaces of the root(s) to stimulus. Either way, this is a problem that should be looked at quickly before the situation deteriorates.
