Also an abscess can form behind the tonsil pushing in toward the midline, necessitating drainage. Occasionally unilateral enlargement may be stones/debris or masses. Start salt water gargles and see physician.

Bacterial?: If it is, antibiotics may be useful but the vast majority of these are of viral origin. Sometimes it is started by a virus then a bacterial secondary infection can come into play. Get it looked at to develop a treatment plan.
