Was colonoscopy done: Depending on what liver tests are elevated and what they find on ultrasound, additional tests may be needed. How was the diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome made? Did he have a colonoscopy? A diagnosis of ulcerative colitis should be ruled out if there is evidence of elevated alkaline phosphatase without gallstones, since primary sclerosing cholangitis is associated with this condition.
