Hi, what is the most accurate test for small intestine bacterial overgrowth? does biopsy of duodenum help? if not, what biopsy is required? thanks?

I do not believe there is one and would be leery trusting any provider suggesting such a label. The intestines are host to millions of active germs at any one point & those that survived stomach acid to reach the intestines can be found on stool culture. Some germs are benign, some cause infection, but I would not want anyone doing a biopsy to find germs. Probiotics can help balance the gut.

A breath test may be the first step in testing for small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).
