Can valium help in migraine treatment?

RELAXES MUSCLES: Valium can be helpful in some patients with Migraine as it relaxes the muscles and reduces anxiety if used with analgesics or triptans But most migraine patients do not need Valium or other Benzodiazepines

Better choices...: Valium is an anxiety medication. There are many more specific medications used for migraines - AND they do not carry the risk of addiction that Valium does. Talk with your doctor about other ways to manage anxiety. Good luck. LGromko MD

Not usually given: Benzodiazepine tranquilizers like Valium or Xanax (alprazolam) are usually not prescribed for treatment of migraine. There is no evidence they are effective for the acute migraine headache. Nor are they used for prevention of migraine.

Source: Better to try and determine the source of the migraine than treat with meds. There are some meds that do help abort the migraine before it reaches it's worse stage, but with so many types of migraines and intensities, better to search for the triggers, if possible.
