Rest the hip: I used to remember working hours and hours on splits. Often a safer way to achieve a good split is to have someone push against you in the direction of a split - with you applying pressure in the opposite direction. It is a totally painless and more effective way to get into and to maintain good splits.

Probably a strain: looks like you overstretched the muscles around the hip. need to rest it for a week while applying warm compresses.
