Side of my big toe is numb. the area underneath the toe is also numb. i was told it was because my nerve is being inflamed. ?

Generally local prob: if the numbness is isolated to big toe often it is local problem such as shoes or pressure from shoe wear. sometimes referred from a higher nerve source.
