I agree with you: Hi. A cough lasting 10 weeks is abnormal, and could represent a variety of pathologies including asthma, GERD, bronchitis, pneumonia, etc. We don't know your friend's age, medical history, travel history, smoking history, coincident findings like fever, wheezing, sputum production, blood streaking, all of which are important. I would say an evaluation is in order. Good luck to her/him!
