A member asked:

Why was my son born with caput succedaneum? what causes it and what can be done?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Natural event: While squeezing into a shape that would fit your birth canal, some fluid and blood was trapped by the tourniquet effect of the canal. The caput is common, and will generally disappear after the tourniquet is gone (birth) although it can take a few days.
