Yes: Another answer where "the artery is supreme" is the answer. Anytime you can increase the circulation to an injured area it increases healing and decreases pain. I especially recommend that my patients apply ice to the area until it becomes really uncomfortable then immediately apply heat. The clamps the blood vessels down with the ice then over dilates them with the heat increasing circulation.
