Neck muscle pull: Depending on the severity of the muscle trauma you may benefit from a soft neck collar to protect your neck muscles. Gentle massage may help and lying down frequently to rest your neck. If you do not get progessively well in 2-3 weeks or if you get worse you should call you doctor.

Massage: Massage may help. Assuming you have no bleeding or bruising or muscle tears, for a new injury try massage with a large ice cube and gentle stretching. Ice massager can be made in a paper cup then peel back the bottom and lower sides. Several days after the injury, massage with "heating" type cream (like ben gay or tiger balm) may help.
