Many: Disk herniation does not cause back pain except immediately after the herniation. Disk degeneration causes more back pain. Maximizing flexibility and strengthening of the lower back will help. Seek chiropractic therapy, interventional pain management, and physical therapy as alternatives to surgery.

See below: It may be a disc herniation but it could also be a number of other causes. Not all back pain is from disc herniation in fact the majority of back pain is not caused by disc herniation. The first step is to see a specialist in this area. This may be a physiatrist, neurologist, orthopedist or sports medicine specialist. They will take your history, examine you and order appropriate tests.
