See orthopedist: If you have an ankle sprain that has been painful for several weeks and is not improving i would recommend seeing an orthopedist. An evaluation and appropriate tests will help determine if there is internal damage that may require physical therapy or other forms of treatment.

Pain relief: Motrin can help for pain relief but will not help for symptoms of instability from ligament damage. If you continue to have pain and/or ankle instability, i recommend you see an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation and treatment.

Stress test/mri: Hopefully you followed your doctor's advice. You may need x-ray stress tests or an MRI.
