Exposure to sand ...: Silicosis is a lung disorder caused by continued long-term inhalation of the dust of inorganic (non-living) substances like sand, quartzes, flints and other stones. Certain occupations are prone to dust and small particle debris exposure such as construction trades and some manufacturing. Wear protective mask whenever risk of exposure is high. Same advice for hobbies and sports.
