Few things: It could simply be pain due to writing too much or gripping the pen too hard. Other possibilities includes tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and arthritis (usually osteoarthritis). These are not generally not hard to diagnose. Start with your primary care physician. If no help, see a rheumatologist.

Carpal tunnel?: You may possibly having carpal tunnel which is quite common in folks using their hands repetitively such as typing etc...Over-use arthritis can also be causing symptoms..I would recommend seeing your doc for an evaluation to determine a best solution for your. Try some motrin/aleve, vitamin b6, and wrist splint in the meantime..Good luck.

Stop joystick?: Sorry, but it was too easy to respond by saying to stop the ne thing that causes pain! seriously, if using he joystick causes severe pain, it is likely related to overuse and irritation of nerves, tendons or muscles. Trying a different grip, the other hand or decreasing use could help. If more pain or symptoms change get checked. Do get some outdoor exercise though!

Specifically?: Answer some questions: where does it hurt, when does it hurt, what makes it better, what makes it worse, is it hot, is it cold, is it red, is it white, is the pain happening with something else going on, is it coming and going, steady, getting worse? This is like a noise in your car. Troubleshoot a little and resubmit or see you family doctor.

Tendonitis: Most commonly the result of tendonitis. Recommend stretching well prior to playing, icing after playing and using anti-inflammatories. Also have someone evaluate your positioning when playing as this can worsen the problem

Carpal tunnel: Many different things can cause the symptoms you are having but the most common is carpal tunnel syndrome. In this syndrome the median nerve is pinched at the wrist. It can be made better by using a canvas wrist brace and small doses of ibuprofen or Naprosyn (naproxen). I If this does not improve the symptoms have a further evaluation in person. It is often associated with repetitive movements also.
