A member asked:

What are good over-the-counter sedatives that are mild and won't get me addicted but get the job done?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Several: Diphenhydramine in low dose ( 12.5 to 25 mg - some people have to take 50...) is a common component of sleep aids. Melatonin works well for those with delayed sleep phase disorders such as changing time zones and shift work schedules. The dose is 5 mg but the timing of the dose is complicated. Everything else is either not effective, not safe or prescription.
