Several things: If no trauma, use ice, take alleve and get a cushioned insole for your shoe. If no relif see a podiatrist.

Check the fit...: Of your shoes. If too tight, it can cause some compression and irritation of a nerve in your foot. You may also have a condition known as a neuroma/morton's neuroma in the ball of your foot. This needs to be examined and treated professionally. It isn't serious, only painful, but it won't usually go away on its own.
