Not usually: Ear pain is usually due to changes in pressure in the middle ear due to infection, fluid accumulation, allergies, etc. or due to infection of the ear canal or ear drum, itself.Wax buildup is usually virtually painless with the biggest symptom being hearing loss. There could be exceptions.Get your ears cleaned out and examined by a professional.
